New Smyrna Beach Museum of History

New Smyrna is not just a great place to have fun and vacation, but learning about the history of New Smyrna may intrigue you! Did you know that New Smyrna Beach is the oldest American settlement? older than St. Augustine? And that New Smyrna's roots are of pre-colonial, Minorcan descent?  These are just a couple of the many things you will learn by visiting the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History!

The Museum offers many permanent and rotating exhibits. One of their newest being "If Everybody Had an Ocean." The new exhibit describes the story of New Smyrna's connection with the Atlantic through its surfing culture from the 60s onward.

The Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 AM-4 PM

National Geographic names NSB a Top 20 Surfing Town

Things tend to be rather calm on the intracoastal in New Smyrna Beach--Sailboats anchored quietly near oyster beds, the occasional school of dolphins playing in the sunset, yachts passing under the causeway...

But there's a different story on beachside, where our inlet produces, notably, the best waves in Florida. And Now National Geographic has honed in on why New Smyrna ranks in the top 20 surfing destinations, worldwide.
