Space Shuttle

The launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-131) is now scheduled for Monday, April 5, which is the morning after Easter. The launch time is 6:27am! a beautiful time to watch Discovery from our 160-ft, 2-story dock on the Intracoastal Waterway in Historic New Smyrna Beach! Sunrise will be about 7am!! You can watch the Space Shuttle come from the south, and drop the boosters just north of us, off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida. After the first 2 minutes, the windows rattle and you remember that it is not an earthquake, as the vibration from the launch reaches New Smyrna Beach, about 30 miles away!

Space Shuttle Discovery will carry a Multi-Purpose Logistics Module filled with science racks that will be transferred to laboratories of the International Space Station.

My husband and I enjoyed working at the Kennedy Space Center, prior to our Bed & Breakfast careers, and we can share information with you that is not detailed on the Visitor Center Tours.
