New Smyrna is not just a great place to have fun and vacation, but learning about the history of New Smyrna may intrigue you! Did you know that New Smyrna Beach is the oldest American settlement? older than St. Augustine? And that New Smyrna's roots are of pre-colonial, Minorcan descent?  These are just a couple of the many things you will learn by visiting the New Smyrna Beach Museum of History!

The Museum offers many permanent and rotating exhibits. One of their newest being "If Everybody Had an Ocean." The new exhibit describes the story of New Smyrna's connection with the Atlantic through its surfing culture from the 60s onward.

  1. History is derived from the Greek noun ’historia’ meaning ’inquiry or research.’ Aristotle regarded it as a "systematic account of a set of natural phenomena, whether or not chronological ordering was a factor in the account." The term "history" has now come to be applied to accounts of events that are narrated in a chronological order, and deal with the past of mankind. See the link below for more info.
